Benefits to the MOD

There are usually no financial investments required by the MOD (with the exception of installing either CAT5 or a Wireless infrastructure) for the service, as Mediaforce make the capital and revenue investments for the service to be provided on each military base. In return, Mediaforce recovers the investment by offering the service via a secure Internet payment site.

Without the Mediaforce solution, individuals would usually be expected to set up a contract with BT (or similar provider) which could take several weeks to get the main line installed. There would normally be a monthly analogue rental charge for the line (about £11 per month), plus the monthly Broadband charge, which could be a further £20 per month, taking the monthly cost to in excess of £30. Using the Mediaforce system, an individual would expect to pay much less, but more importantly have real flexibility.

The Solution

Mediaforce initially conducts a detailed survey of each military base. Each location then has installed multiple broadband or a leased line which are completely independent from the MOD's own internet and communication systems. All the equipment, including Switches, Firewalls, Network gateways etc are installed within a cabinet and connected into each room via Category 5 cabling. The solution can also work via a Wireless network as well. Each individual military base has its own web payment portal in which individuals subscribe for the service. The prices are constantly reviewed to ensure competitive prices.
